Local execs cite SONA highlights for Antique

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The local leaders here cited several points in the recent State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. that are relevant to the Province of Antique.

Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao, in an interview, lauded the SONA of PBBM noting his mention of the contribution the Filipino people committed to serve the country.

Among the important points stated in the SONA, Cadiao stressed that the program on renewable source energy could help the province a lot especially those in the upland areas and island barangays.

“Though the barangays have generator sets, the renewable sources of energy would further help the secure 24-hour electricity,” said Cadiao.

On the implementation of the housing project, the Governor saw it as a welcome development for Antique, especially those who are living near the coastlines and in flood-prone and landslide-vulnerable areas

Mayor Margarito Mission of San Remigio also commended the President for putting emphasis on the generation of power through renewable sources.

“I am looking forward to these projects since our town is composed of upland barangays with potential sources of hydropower and solar energy,” Mission noted.

Mayor Jocelyn Posadas of Valderrama town also approved of giving attention to the housing projects especially those affected by disasters and calamities, however, for her town she urged the national government to grant their request for protection dikes to secure the barangays near the river banks.

It could be noted that early this month, a representative from the National Housing Authority visited the province and discussed the turnover of housing projects for families affected by Typhoon Yolanda.

For Mayor Mary Nicopior- Te of Libertad, she lauded the President for giving due attention to health workers who exerted so much effort during the height of the pandemic.

She is also open to the proposed amendment of the fishery code as mentioned by the President in his SONA, with the desire that they could participate in the process of the amendment being a progressive coastal community in northern Antique and a recent Galing Pook Awardee for successful coastal resource management program.

Giving due importance to programs in agriculture, food security and digitalization of government systems are likewise significant to the town of Libertad, according to Mayor Te.

Meanwhile, Governor Cadiao also thanked the President for giving priority to education.

“Though the Provincial Government has institutionalized its scholarship program for Antiqueños, more funds for schools and scholarships grants will be of great help to the youth,” she added.

Cadiao enjoined the Antiqueños to sustain their cooperation and vigilance to programs and projects implemented in their barangays which are also part of the roadmap of this administration. (AGP/PSM/PIA Antique)
