Meanwhile, Ampuan said that they are also consistently promoting Davao City as a Muslim-friendly destination, noting that the city has been accepting Muslim tourists, following the opening of direct flights from Qatar and Singapore.
She said “Naa ta’y restaurant, accommodation nga gi-showcase na karon as Muslim-friendly destination because it’s pork-free na and the accommodation is Muslim-friendly kay naa na sila'y Kiblah, naa na sila'y specific room para sa Muslim tourist, separate na ‘yung prayer rooms allotted for men and women.”
Kiblah or Qibla refers to the direction toward the Kaaba in the Sacred Mosque in Mecca that Muslims face when engaged in ritual prayer.
She added that the number of Muslim-friendly restaurants and accommodations in the city is increasing as well.
At present, there are more than 30 Muslim-friendly restaurants and accommodations in Davao City. However, she said that there are various restaurants and accommodations in the city that are already Muslim-friendly but are yet to be listed.
Halal is a way of life. It is an Arabic word meaning lawful, permissible, or allowable, may it tangible or intangible, that is beneficial physically and spiritually. Recently, Halal encompasses all humankind, not just Muslims. (ASO/PIA-XI)
