Davao Occidental fisherfolks benefit from motorized banca loan program

DAVAO CITY (PIA) - - The fisherfolks from five coastal barangays in Don Marcelino town, Davao Occidental will be owning new motorized boats (small fishing boats) as they have recently signified to avail of the Motorized Banca Loan Program of the provincial government.

The qualified fisherfolks from Barangays Kinanga, Lawa, Lamidan, Linadasan, and Fishing Village Zone 2 signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Governor Franklin P. Bautista for the implementation of the Livelihood Economic Acceleration Program (LEAP), where they will benefit from the loan program.

Bautista, who also surprised them with the granting of a financial assistance as a start-up capital during the MOA signing, has encouraged the beneficiaries to wisely use the livelihood assistance, which aims to uplift their livelihood and standard of living.

Earlier, the governor has also turned over the loan program to the beneficiaries from Barangays Fishing Village, Buhangin, Culaman, Poblacion, and Tubalan, all of Malita town.

Meanwhile, the CabMarMaBio Farmers and Fishermen Association in the municipality of Jose Abad Santos is identified as recipient of LEAP, where their qualified members could also avail of the Motorized Banca Loan.

Harden Henry Joyce, president of CabMarMaBio, sealed a MOA with the municipal local government unit, represented by Acting Municipal Mayor James John A. Joyce, on Tuesday, July 25, in Brgy. Marabatuan.

CabMarMaBio covers the following barangays: Caburan Big, Marabatuan, Magulibas, and Meybio.

During the ceremonial MOA signing, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) conducted a Basic Life Support Training was with the fisherfolks.
