SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 1 and the provincial government of La Union provided much-needed assistance to augment the needs of some 367 affected families from 11 coastal barangays of the town of Bangar on July 27.
The DSWD provided 1,500 family food packs worth P1,126,650.00 that the local government unit of Bangar distributed to the families on the same day.
Meanwhile, the provincial government of La Union provided assistance worth P30,000.00 to the town as its local government issued a forced evacuation order on July 26 to clear residents from eight barangays due to rising water levels at the height of Typhoon Egay.

Bangar Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer (MSWDO) Shirlyn Lamsen expressed her gratitude on behalf of Mayor Joy Pinzon Merin for the assistance provided to the town, noting how the food packs ensure that families staying in their evacuation centers have food to live by as they wait for water levels to subside.
Lamsen also said that the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) is still assessing the extent of the typhoon’s damage to property and resources.
“Kasalukuyan pa po tayong nagsasagawa ng assessment, halos lahat po ng mga pamilya ay affected. [Ready tayo dahil] dumating na ang tulong mula sa national government,” Lamsen said.
Power interruption was also recorded in all barangays of the town, starting at 3:15 p.m. on July 26 which has not yet been restored. (JCR/AMB/CCMT, PIA La Union)
