Typhoon-hit Abrenians thank PBBM for swift relief assistance

BANGUED, Abra (PIA) -- Typhoon-hit families and individuals in Abra thanked President Ferdinand "Bongbong"  Marcos Jr. for the immediate relief assistance and prompt actions towards recovery from the impacts of Super Typhoon Egay.

The President visited Bangued, Abra on Saturday, July 29, for inspection and situation briefing on the effects of Super Typhoon in the Cordillera Region.

The President led the giving of financial assistance worth P20 million to the province of Abra thru Governor Dominic Valera.  He also provided checks worth P10 million each to the other typhoon-hit provinces of Benguet and Mountain Province received by Governor Melchor Diclas and Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr, respectively.

PBBM  with Senator Imee Marcos and  Department of Social Welfare and Development  Secretary  Rex Gatchalian, also headed the distribution of cash assistance and food packs to Abrenian typhoon victims at the Bangued Town Plaza.

“Agyamanak ta innikan dakami ta ammom diay bagas mi nadanuman amin-amin, awanin. Agyamak Apo Presidente,” said Florentina Tauro from Santa Rosa, Bangued. She is at the Provincial Capitol evacuation center since her house was flooded during the height of Super Typhoon Egay.

Alfredo Adame  from Santa Rosa is also thankful for the assistance his family received. Their  house was totally damaged due to severe flooding and their livestock including their rice and corn produce were washed away by the flood.

“Agyamyaman kami iti tulong ni Apo Presidente aglalo dagiti kapamilia mi a totally damaged ti balbalayda," he said.

The Department of Agriculture also turned over a total of P9.9 million financial assistance for farmers while the Department of Labor and Employment also awarded P15 million under the TUPAD or the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers for the province of Abra.

Cash assistance under the DSWD Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation for the victims of calamities was awarded to the municipal mayors of Abra.

Aside from the different cash and relief support, the President also assured the typhoon victims that efforts are underway to restore basic utility service such as water and power.

“Marami na kaming nakahanda na food packs. Susunod diyan ay ang pinaka-importante water supply pero susunod diyan ‘yung kuryente. Kaya’t palagay ko sa lalong madaling panahon maibabalik na natin ang lahat ng mga serbisyo na kinakailangan,” he said.

The super typhoon that ravaged  the province on Wednesday, July 26, affected around 68,910 families with 229,409 individuals due to severe flooding and landslides. Three  individuals  were reported dead, four  injured, and one missing. 

There were also 4,835 partially damaged and  237  totally  damaged houses   recorded.

A total of 42 road sections  in  the province are still unpassable.    

The total estimated damage for identified sectors reached more than P1.2 million based on partial report of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Agriculture damages to include rice, corn, and high value commercial crops is now at more than P26.9 million.

Meanwhile, a total of more than P1.8 million government assistance from  local governemnt units, DSWD-CAR, Philippine Red Cross , and the PLGU was already given to the typhoon victims.(JJPM-PIA Abra)
