BONTOC, Mountain Province(PIA) -- The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office(PDRRMO) led the successful conduct of the second provincial Rescue Olympics exemplifying   the  Bayanihan spirit on  July 21, 2023 at the Eyeb Grounds in Bontoc  

The municipality of Bontoc dominated the competition posting a total score of 91.30 percent  in the seven stations   to test the skills and knowledge of the competing teams. These are  Bandaging and Patient Management and Packaging, Extrication with Basic Life Support Adult CPR, Patient Rescue and Transport, Hose Laying and Replacement of Busted Hose, Flammable Liquid Fire Extinguishment, Bucket Relay and Quiz Bee.

Defending champion Besao  came in second  with a score of 85.90%  and Barlig in third with 78.30%.

Special awards were also given to the municipality of Tadian for  adjudged Best in Chant and Paracelis for being the team with the best uniform.

PDRRM Officer Edward C. Chumawar Jr  said the   event was  not just mere contest or a series of challenges, but a joyous celebration of unity  and a testament  of  the values of the people in Mountain Province.  

“The Rescue Olympics is not just a competition but also a testament that defines the people of our province. Our participants exemplify the Bayanihan spirit, the willingness to lend a hand to those in need, and determination to face challenges head-on,” Chumawar said.

“Remember that beyond the competitions and challenges, this event is a celebration of unity. As you work together and cheer for one another, you showcase the strength that comes from being united as one family,”  he  added.

Chumawar called on the participating teams from the different municipalities to continue supporting each  another and  collaborating with one another  and to be always  prepared   in building   safer and more resilient  communities.

Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan Jr. praised  the participants for joining said event and for volunteering which he said is  a manifestation of their desire and characteristic to help people.

“What matters to me most is your willingness to become a responder and in participating in this activity, this means that you have a great character of being helpful. You want to have this kind of trainings and activities so that in times of crisis, you would be able to respond” Lacwasan said.

He expressed support to the continued conduct of said activity. “As the Governor, I will always support this kind of activity” he said.

Lacwasan also donated an additional amount to each participant to cover for their operations cost and other expenses.

The Rescue Olympics was part of the observance  of the National Disaster Resilience Month.(JDP/CVBT-PIA CAR, Mt. Province)
