DOH sends out emergency teams, medical supplies to Egay-hit towns in Ilocos Norte

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) – The Department of Health Region I has deployed medical and response teams, including health personnel from the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC) to provide post-calamity health assistance to residents affected by Typhoon Egay.


The team was divided into four clusters for the services namely medical and public health water sanitation and hygiene, nutrition, mental health, and psychosocial support.


Apart from the DOH and ITRMC teams, the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMHMC) has also deployed three teams consist of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical social workers, dietitians, and ambulance drivers to augment in the medical services.


Teams were stationed in the towns of Adams, Currimao, Badoc, and Banna. Medical consultations and minor surgeries were performed.


Also, a total of 220 residents in Dingras were provided medical and dental services.


Apart from this medical mission, the provincial government of Ilocos Norte has also received first aid kits, heavy-duty cot beds, hygiene kits, water containers, troclosene sodium effervescent tablet for disinfection of drinking water, antibiotics, cough and cold medications, pain relievers, vitamins, and salbutamol inhalers.


“This is the first batch of commodities sent to the province last July 27 and we have again delivered assorted drugs, medicines, and first aid kits coming from the DOH central office amounting to P546,757.20, per request of Senator Imee Marcos,” said Sydiongco.


To ensure that post-disaster health problems such as food and water-borne illnesses will arise, the regional director said they are continuously monitoring and in constant coordination with the local government unit for additional medical services.


“The regional office and its hospitals are ready to provide medical assistance. Patuloy po tayong mag-ingat at umiwas sa anumang sakuna para po sa ating kaligtasan at ng ating pamilya at ugaliing makinig at sumunod sa mga alituntunin ng ating mga loka na pamahalaan,” reminded Sydiongco.
