BANGUED, Abra(PIA) –- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is doubling its efforts to distribute cash assistances for super typhoon Egay-hit Abrenians in compliance with the marching orders of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ R. Marcos Jr. (PBBM).
Following the President’s distribution of relief good and cash assistances to the affected families on Saturday(July 29), the SWAD-Team of Abra a held a payout on the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) at the Bangued Town Plaza.
More than 700 affected families and residents from Barangay Sta. Rosa and Brgy. Cabuloan were given cash assistance ranging from from P5,000 to P10,000 depending on the extent of damage incurred during the typhoon.
One of the hardest-hit residents from barangay Sta. Rosa is 62 years-old Lorna Ildefonso. She shared that as soon as she saw the water rising rapidly, she left her home and immediately sought shelter at the provincial capitol. Ildefonso who underwent surgery in June is still recovering physically.
“Na wash-out lahat pati mga damit namin kaya ang hirap ngayon. Magpapahinga pa sana ng maayos pero ganito na naman ang nangyari. Mahirap lalo na ngayon wala kaming pera,” Ildefonso said. She is still housed at a small tent near the barangay hall of Sta. Rosa.
Ildefonso was among the residents who received cash assistance of P10,000 from BBM during his visit in the province.
“Buti na lang may binigay si BBM na ten thousand pesos para at least may pambili ng mga pagkain at ibang needs dito sa evacuation center,” she said.
Aside from the cash assistances, at least 8,375 family food packs and 5,926 other food and non-food items were also made available for the victims of Egay while 96 gallons of water and 1,142 hygiene kits were provided to the affected residents.(CAGT-PIA Abra)
