As of August 1, the PDRRMO reported that total damages reached P 879.9 million. Damages to agriculture are estimated at P52.6M; P529.9M for infrastructure particularly road networks, and 4.6M for the social sector including damages to residential houses.
There were 780 families or 2,460 individuals reported directly affected by the typhoon with 274 of these families displaced and were accommodated in the evacuation centers, and friends and families’ houses.
Egay also left one death and two injuries in the province.
With the declaration of the state of calamity, the provincial government can now utilize the 30 percent Quick Response Fund for the conduct of relief and recovery programs and activities, Provincial Legal Officer Tomas A. Kiwang, Jr. explained.
The declaration will also be beneficial to the people as there will be no increase in the prices of basic commodities, he added.
Republic Act 7581, otherwise known as the Price Act, provides that prize freeze for all basic goods( canned fish, locally manufactured instant noodles, bottled water, bread, processed milk, coffee, candles, salt, laundry soap and detergents) will be in effect for 60 days in areas declared under state of calamity.
