Mountain Province under state of calamity

As of  August  1, the PDRRMO reported that total damages reached P 879.9 million.  Damages to agriculture are  estimated at P52.6M; P529.9M  for  infrastructure particularly road networks,  and 4.6M  for the  social sector including damages to residential houses.

There were  780 families or  2,460 individuals  reported directly affected by the typhoon  with  274 of these families   displaced and were accommodated in the evacuation centers, and friends and families’ houses.

Egay also left  one death  and two injuries in the province.

With the declaration of the   state of calamity, the provincial government can now utilize the 30 percent Quick Response Fund   for the conduct of relief and recovery programs and activities,  Provincial Legal Officer Tomas A. Kiwang, Jr. explained.

The declaration will also be beneficial to the people as there will be no increase in the prices of basic commodities, he added. 

 Republic Act 7581, otherwise known as the Price Act, provides that  prize freeze for all basic goods( canned fish, locally manufactured instant noodles, bottled water, bread, processed milk, coffee, candles, salt, laundry soap and detergents)  will be in effect  for 60 days  in areas  declared under  state of calamity.

From Jr. to Jr. Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr thanks President Ferdinand Marcos Jr for the financial aid P10 million for relief assistance to the province whichis under state of calamity due to damages wrought by super typhoon Egay. The President handed the assistance when he visited Abra on July 29, 2023.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr  during his visit to Abra on July 29 to see the extent of damages and assess the situation,turned over  financial assistance  of P10 million in cheque  to Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr for  relief assistance  to typhoon-affected individuals  and for recovery efforts in the province.

The provincial government  together with concerned line agencies like the Department of Social Welfare, the Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, Bureau of Fire Protection, Department of Public Works and Highways, the different local government units and community volunteers are  closely  working together  for  relief operations and road clearing operations to provide easier access to the affected communities.    

The Department of Trade and Industry  is conducting  price monitoring on retail stores in  the province. (PIA Mountain Province)
