PBBM declares 'Philippine Space Week' to boost space awareness among Filipinos

QUEZON CITY (PIA) -- The Philippine government is taking bold steps to promote space awareness among Filipinos, as President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has announced August 8 to 14 of every year to be observed as “Philippine Space Week.”

This move follows the recommendation of the Philippine Space Council to increase public’s knowledge and interest in space science and technology.

Proclamation No. 302, released on July 25, highlights the significance of declaring the “Philippine Space Week” and recognizes the impact of space science and technology applications to the socio-economic development of the country.

With the enactment of the Philippine Space Act on August 8, 2019, this proclamation aims to promote space awareness and celebrate the significant contributions of Filipinos worldwide in this field.

As per direction by the President, the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) will lead the promotion and yearly observance of the “Philippine Space Week” and identify the programs, projects, and activities for its successful implementation.

All government agencies, government-owned or controlled corporations, state universities and colleges, local government units, non-government organizations and private sectors are encouraged to actively participate in this event.

This exciting initiative showcases the country's commitment to promoting science and technology and its potential to lead the space industry in the future. With the establishment of this observance, all Filipinos are called to support and acknowledge the importance of space science and technology in their daily lives.
