Preparedness and dedication, key to Kalinga’s  zero casualty from ‘Egay’

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) reported zero casualty in the province  from  super typhoon ‘Egay’.

A key to this achievement  is the  preparedness and dedication  of the Provincial Risk Reduction Management Council member, Governor James S. Edduba said   during the July 31 flag raising  ceremony. He  expressed gratitude to them for their relentless efforts during the recent typhoon.

The provincial government  also acknowledged that “collaboration and dedication of various agencies played a crucial role in minimizing the impact of Super Typhoon Egay in the province, ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.”

Vice Governor Jocel C. Baac  also commended the  people of  Kalinga  for their resilience  during difficult  times.

As reports from the municipalities come in, consolidated reports show  there were 801 families composed  of  3,939  individuals affected by the typhoon. Three houses were totally damaged  while 104  houses were partially damaged  as well as two schools.

Agriculture suffered the most damages with initial cost of damages  at P64 million particularly  rice,  corn and  high-valued crops. The torrential rains submerged many of the crops.

Egay also damaged  various road sections mostly due to landslides . The  Department of Public Works and Highways  led  clearing operations to make   more roads passable.

As of August 1, the Piat-Tuao-Pinupuk Road  and the Kalinga - Abra Road  are  temporarily closed due to collapsed soil.
