CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) reported zero casualty in the province from super typhoon ‘Egay’.
A key to this achievement is the preparedness and dedication of the Provincial Risk Reduction Management Council member, Governor James S. Edduba said during the July 31 flag raising ceremony. He expressed gratitude to them for their relentless efforts during the recent typhoon.
The provincial government also acknowledged that “collaboration and dedication of various agencies played a crucial role in minimizing the impact of Super Typhoon Egay in the province, ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.”
Vice Governor Jocel C. Baac also commended the people of Kalinga for their resilience during difficult times.
As reports from the municipalities come in, consolidated reports show there were 801 families composed of 3,939 individuals affected by the typhoon. Three houses were totally damaged while 104 houses were partially damaged as well as two schools.
Agriculture suffered the most damages with initial cost of damages at P64 million particularly rice, corn and high-valued crops. The torrential rains submerged many of the crops.
Egay also damaged various road sections mostly due to landslides . The Department of Public Works and Highways led clearing operations to make more roads passable.
As of August 1, the Piat-Tuao-Pinupuk Road and the Kalinga - Abra Road are temporarily closed due to collapsed soil.
