Habagat, Falcon cause flooding; displace families in Rizal, Cavite

CALAMBA CITY (PIA) – Typhoon Falcon and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon or Habagat have displaced 1,554 families in Rizal and Cavite and caused flooding in both provinces, the regional disaster council in Calabarzon said.

The Regional Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC), in a report on Monday, July 31, said the affected individuals stayed in evacuation centers and took shelter from their relatives in the towns of Cainta, Montalban, Morong, San Mateo, Taytay and City of Antipolo in Rizal.

Three towns in the province of Cavite also ordered preventive evacuation displacing families, according to the report.

Reyan Derrick Marquez, Office of Civil Defense IV-A officer-in-charge, said nine houses were reportedly damaged in Cavite, one was totally damaged while eight were partially damaged. Toppled trees in Indang affected one family, while a toppled post in Alfonso injured two individuals.

In Rizal, three landslide incidents were reported in Montalban, resulting to one injured and five displaced individuals due to continuous moderate to heavy rains.

Flooding was reported in Rizal and Cavite ranging from below-knee deep up to above-waist deep resulting in pre-emptive evacuation in both provinces, according to local disaster councils.

Meanwhile, the voyage of all small crafts with 250 gross tonnage (GT) or less at Batangas ports was suspended due to strong gale force winds while four vessels in Cotta Port in Quezon Province were stranded. The trips will resume until further notice

The state’s weather bureau PAGASA said the Southwest Monsoon will continue to bring monsoon rains in the western parts of Luzon and Visayas. (AM/PIA-4A)
