ILOILO CITY (PIA6) -- An elementary jumper from Brgy. Maya, Balasan, Iloilo has given Western Visayas its first gold medal in this year’s Palarong Pambansa in Marikina City.

The twelve-year-old Jomel Dichosa emerged on top in the Elementary Boys Long Jump event after defeating all his opponents from other provinces with a distance leap of 5.22 meters.

Both coaches of the players were also proud of what the athletes achieved, noting that they were happy to see their students succeed after months of training and hard work.

“So far very proud gid kami and very happy nga naka-hatag kami sang first gold medal sa Western Visayas kag halin sa Iloilo,” Jomel’s coach added.

Meanwhile, Shanelle Jane C. Felomino from Carles, Iloilo and Jian Talaban Arlanza from San Lorenzo, Guimaras also brought honor to the region as they got bronze medal in Elementary Girls High Jump event and silver medal in Elementary Boys Long Jump category, respectively.

As of Tuesday, Aug 1, 2023, Western Visayas already has two gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal in the Palarong Pambansa 2023, which started on July 29 until Aug 5, 2023. (AAL/JNH/PIA6 Iloilo)
