New 'Gabay sa Pamimili ng School Supplies 2023' up

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) released anew the Suggested Retail Price (SRP) for school and office supplies as of July 25, 2023.

DTI Antique Trade and Industry Development Specialist Arnel Oliveros said that the updated SRP includes a comprehensive list of items that are commonly used in both educational and professional settings, such as notebooks, pad paper, pens, pencils, crayons, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, and other stationery products.

DTI hoped that in releasing this updated SRP the consumer will be more aware of the prevailing market prices, thus, preventing undue price increases during the peak back-to-school and office supply buying season.

It also aims to provide transparency and guidance for retailers and suppliers in adhering to the recommended prices.

DTI’s monitoring started with a new notebook brand, priced at P28.00 (writing and composition), P29.00 (spiral), and P30.00 (yarn).

For ballpens, a brand with 3 pieces per pack decreased by 6%, or P1.50, from P25.50 to P24.00 compared to last year.

Likewise, for crayons, the price of a certain brand 16 and 24-set, went down

by 1% or P0.25, from P30.00 to P29.75 and P38.00 to P37.75.00, respectively.

For erasers, the price of one brand went up by 27% or P4.00, from P15.00 to P19.00 compared to a year ago.

Oliveros noted that while the price of some items remains the same, the price of others increased due to the impact of the global increase in the cost of basic raw materials for school supplies.

Consumers and business owners are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new SRP to make informed purchasing decisions and support fair market practices.

DTI has already started monitoring and inspecting department stores and other establishments to ensure compliance with the SRP. (AGP/PSM/PIA Antique with reports from DTI)
