DOLE Camiguin gives P365K livelihood aid

MAMBAJAO, Camiguin (PIA)--The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Camiguin Provincial Office has once again demonstrated its commitment to empowering communities and uplifting lives by awarding P365,000 worth of livelihood assistance to 15 beneficiaries through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP).

The turnover ceremony, held in Mambajao, marks a significant milestone in the department's mission to alleviate poverty and provide sustainable livelihood and employment opportunities to the residents of Camiguin.

Among the livelihoods supported were siomai production, bibingka, and empanada making, native chicken production, food vending, makeup and hairstyling services, frozen food meat processing, sari-sari stores, kakanin snack making, barber shops, rice retailing, cake and pastry making, and massage services.

Orlando Abrenica of DOLE-10 emphasized the significance of these initiatives, saying, "We believe that empowering individuals with sustainable livelihoods not only helps uplift their families but also contributes to the overall economic growth of the community."

Marilou Guinitaran, a beneficiary from Poblacion, Mambajao, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for being part of the program.

"Dako gyud ni og natabang kay mao ra man gyud ni ang among panginabuhian, kanang empanada labi na karon nga nadungagan pa gyud ang among materials ug among mga ingrediente nga gihatag sa DOLE. Nagpasalamat gyud ko og dako [It really helped us a lot because this is our livelihood, the empanada, especially now that our materials and our ingredients are provided by DOLE. I am very thankful]," she said.

For Marilou and the other recipients, this assistance has been a transformative opportunity to turn their dreams into reality. Many have longed to establish their own businesses but lacked the necessary financial support. With DOLE's intervention, these aspiring entrepreneurs can now take decisive steps toward self-sufficiency and economic independence.

The turnover ceremony in Mambajao is a testament to DOLE's unwavering dedication to creating a brighter future for Camiguin's residents. By fostering self-reliance and encouraging small-scale businesses, the department aims to combat poverty at its roots and pave the way for a more prosperous community, said DOLE Camiguin Provincial Director Arlyn Bael.

DOLE's efforts extend beyond mere financial assistance; they provide comprehensive support, including training and capacity-building programs, to equip beneficiaries with essential skills and knowledge for their chosen livelihoods. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
