BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - - Two towns in the province were given assistance by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in a bid to propagate bamboos for livelihood and Climate Change mitigation purposes.
Marietta Salviejo, DTI provincial director said the towns of Aritao and Bayombong were given Bamboo Nursery and Demonstration Facility under the agency’s Shared Service Facility (SSF) Program this month.
She said Aritao and Bayombong got P332,000 worth of Bamboo Nursery and Demonstration Facility each with three sets each of intermittent mist timing propagators, a pressurized water system and a greenhouse net.
“These projects are aimed at solidifying the ecological and economic potentials of the bamboo industry in the province by involving Municipal Local Government Units (MLGUs) as project cooperators,” she said.
Salviejo said the DTI, which heads the Philippine Bamboo Industry Development Council (PBIDC) and as National Industry Cluster Coordinator (NICC) for bamboo, embarks on a massive advocacy campaign to establish bamboo plantations that will create a competitive industry with sustainable raw materials base.
She said they are expecting other towns of the province to become project cooperators as most of the MLGUs in the province have vowed to support the bamboo industry development in Nueva Vizcaya. (OTB/BME/ PIA NVizcaya)
