CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) – The Department of Agriculture (DA) Mimaropa through the Provincial Agriculturist Offices of Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro have reported agricultural damages in Mindoro islands due to the southwest monsoon that was enhanced by typhoon “Egay” reached P371 million.
In Occidental Mindoro, ‘Egay’ left more than P265 million worth of damage to the Agriculture sector in the province.
Provincial Agriculturist Engr. Alriza Zubiri said that the rice fields were the most affected where P122,690,127.83 was damaged. Followed by Corn with P91 million, P17.2 million in fisheries, P14.4 million in high valued crops, P2.9 million in livestock, more than P8 million in damage to machinery and P8.6 million in irrigation.
Meanwhile, based on the record of DA Mimaropa, up to 3,320.22 hectares of land were damaged and submerged in flood waters where 1,973 rice farmers have been affected in Oriental Mindoro. The recorded amount of damage in the Agriculture sector has reached P106,489,542.40.
