BAGUIO CITY (PIA) - - The Commission on Elections - Cordillera convened the Regional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC) for its first command conference on August 1 at the Comelec – CAR Regional Office in preparation for the October 30, 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections(BSKE).  

Comelec – CAR Regional Director Julius Torres with Police Regional Office – Cordillera Director PBGen David Peredo Jr. and Philippine Army 5th Infantry Division Commander MGen Audrey Pasia presided the command conference that was attended by the provincial election officers and representatives from the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, the Department of the Interior and Local Government and Philippine Information Agency. 

The Comelec – CAR gave an orientation on recent issuances regarding gun ban, establishment of checkpoints and on transfer/appointment of officers and employees in the civil service which shall be observed during the election period.

The election period for the 2023 BSKE is  set from August 28 until November 29.  Filing of certificates of candidacy for the two elections is scheduled from Aug. 28 to September 2 while campaign period is from October 19 to 28. 

The PRO – Cor provided initial assessment report on peace and    its election deployment plan, while the 5th ID shared internal security situation in Cordillera that may affect the 2023 BSKE.

Peredo and Pasia, in their respective messages, assured the support of the PNP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines through the 5ID in ensuring a safe, orderly and credible 2023 BSKE in Cordillera

“Sa amin sa PNP, always to serve and protect kaugnay sa mantra ng aming Chief PNP na lagi nyang sinasabi na - Serbisyong nagkakaisa, ang teamwork nating lahat ay makakapagbibigay ng magandang resulta sa ating misyon,” Peredo said.

“On the part of the AFP, andito lang po kami nakasuporta sa COMELEC at sa ating PNP. Kung may problema, ipaa-alam nyo lang po sa amin and we are more than willing na magsuporta sa inyo. Andito lang po kami para sa inyo, serving the people and securing the land,” Pasia added.

Torres, on behalf of the Comelec – CAR, expressed gratitude to the RJSCC members and calls for a continuing partnership for the successful conduct of the October 30 BSKE.

For the 2023 BSKE in Cordillera, barangay and SK officials will be voted in 1,406 polling precincts in the 1,173 barangays in the region. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
