LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA) - - The impact of typhoon "Egay" prompted local officials of Tinoc town to declare the municipality under state of calamity to hasten recovery efforts.
Mayor Samson Benito approved Resolution No. 2023-267 passed by the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) declaring the municipality under the state of calamity as recommended by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.
The SB stated that there is a need to rehabilitate the damaged roads and other infrastructure projects and assist households affected by the calamity.
The MDRRM office reported that municipality incurred damages estimated at more than P100 million. Damages to population reached P600,000.00; P69,116,500.00 for infrastructure and P47,080,000.00 for agriculture.
With the declaration of state of calamity, the local governemnt can use the calamity fund for the recovery and relief and rehabilitation of affected population and damaged public infrastructures and facilities. Price freeze on basic necessities and prime commodities will also be imposed to prevent profiteering.(JDP/MBL-PIA CAR, Ifugao)
