DAVAO CITY (PIA) -- Authorities are looking at crime of passion which caused an explosion inside a restobar in Calinan Poblacion in Davao City.
The blast, which occurred 10:39 p.m. on August 7 in front of Emragila Restobar in Roman Diaz Street, Calinan District, resulted in the death of one person while three others were wounded.
The lone fatality was identified as Romnick Notarte, a welder from Barangay Tamugan, Calinan. Wounded during the blast were Emelita Rotarte Alegarme, 48 years old; Loribeth Toting Nocyeo, 50 years old; and Rey Caresosa Agliones, 32 years old.
Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte was among those who responded to the scene of the incident.
“Ang initial na information among nakuha, kaning babae naa siya’y gisuspetsahan ang iyahang ex-boyfriend. Kay earlier daw somewhere diri na area gi-attempt siya na ligsan and naa na’y threats before pa (Our initial information we got this woman she has a suspect which is her ex-boyfriend, previously there was an attempt to run over here in the same area and there were threats before),” the City Mayor said referring to the statement of the bar owner.
Mayor Duterte, during an interview at the send-off of police personnel for the coming Kadayawan, said that based on the initial findings, black powder was used in the Calinan blast.
The two suspects are now in police custody. One of the suspects is the ex-boyfriend of one Monalisa Alegarme Melhem, the bar owner.
Based on the account of the victims, as they were about to leave the bar after having dinner. Emelita Alegarme noticed a white cellophane bag placed on the restobar’s window with something igniting inside. Alegarme tried to check the bag but it suddenly exploded.
Witnesses near the scene recounts a powerful blast before they saw the victims sprawled on the street in front of the bar. Notarte was declared dead on arrival at the Southern Philippine Medical Center.
Mayor Duterte reminded Dabawenyos on the Culture of Security being constantly advocated by the City Government, which means increased vigilance on the part of the residents and cooperate with the authorities.
“Kung naa moy makit-an na ginabilin mga butang labi na sa mga dalan gina-encourage namo na mag storya ug vigilant jud ang mga taga Davao (If you see an item left behind particularly on the streets we encourage you to report, let us be vigilant),” the Mayor reminded Dabawenyos
Security forces in Davao City are currently on high alert with the coming Kadayawan Festival next week. Security forces are set to deploy 10,000 personnel to help secure the city during the festival. (RGA/PIA Davao)
