Series of CTG surrenders in Quezon, boosts gov’t reintegration program

CAMP CAPINPIN, Tanay, Rizal – The Philippine Army said the successive surrenders of communist insurgents in Quezon province earlier this month boosted the government’s reintegration program.

The Army’s 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) reported that three Milisya ng Bayan members and four members of the Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad surrendered from August 2-4, 2023.

Meanwhile, six supporters of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) and the National Democratic Front (NDF) from the towns of Catanauan and San Francisco in Quezon withdrew their support to the terrorist groups.

In a statement, 2ID Commander Maj. General Roberto Capulong attributed the series of surrenders and withdrawals of support to the collaboration between the security forces, the LGUs, and stakeholders in promoting peace and empowering communities to be resilient against the atrocities of the CPP-NPA-NDF.

He urged the remaining NPA rebels to surrender and avail the government benefits to help re-start their lives with their families.

The Municipal Task Forces to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC) of Catanauan and San Francisco, together with the 85th Infantry "Sandiwa" Battalion, Philippine Army, and local police stations facilitated the surrender.

The surrender of CTG members and supporters came two months after the Army declared Quezon province as an insurgency-free area.

Quezon Governor Angelina “Helen” Tan vowed assistance to the former rebels as they return to the mainstream society under the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP).

The governor believes that the efforts of the security forces to curb insurgency would further develop the local economy and usher in more investments to the province. (CH/PIA-Laguna; with reports from DPAO 2ID,PA)
