La Union gov’t opens convention center to boost economic growth

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The provincial government of La Union opened its unique convention center, shaped like a surfing board, on a 13 hectares (ha) hilly spot at Barangay Sevilla in this city on August 7.

The inauguration of the three-story multi-purpose building coincided with the first State of the Province Address (SOPA) of Governor Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David.

The first-ever convention center of the province was funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) through the National Building Program.

In a statement, Governor Ortega-David said the landmark project aims to boost economic growth and the tourism sector.

She also pledged to amplify the provincial government’s goal to enhance infrastructure development and a sustainable economy in the province.

La Union Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David, with Vice Governor Mario Eduardo Ortega and other local officials of the province, lead the inauguration of the multi-purpose Convention Center at Barangay Sevilla, San Fernando City, La Union on August 7.

“Let us continue to give priority to sustainable and inclusive development in the province through the establishment of more infrastructure projects that will transform La Union’s economic landscape - a vital key in improving the lives of our kaprobinsiaan,” said Ortega-David.

The P280 million project has a floor area of 2,000 square meters, which can accommodate at most 1,500 individuals and is seen to host events, exhibits, conventions, trade shows, meetings, and government programs, among others.
