BANGUED, Abra (PIA) -- Disaster relief efforts continue in the ‘Egay’- struck province of Abra more than a week after the super typhoon caused severe flooding and landslides affecting 83,221 families with 285,826 individuals.

Uniformed personnel, volunteers, and staff of the different local government units are steadfast in delivering boxes of Department of Social Wefare  and Develoment(DSWD)  Family Foodpacks (FFPs) to typhoon-affected families in the different barangays of the province.

Social Welfare and Development-Abra Disaster Risk Reduction Management  Focal Person Garri Brillantes shared that a total of 78,875 FFPs were already delivered and distributed to families and individuals   affected  by the recent calamity.

“Aside from the continuous releasing of FFPs in response to the effects of Egay, the DSWD will also lead the payout of the Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) for the affected Abrenians starting next week. This is a part of the relief operations,” he said.

The DSWD is set to give out ECT for Abrenian families whose houses were  partially and totally damaged on August 14, 2023.

A total of 13,093 houses were  reported destroyed with 12,641 partially and 452 totally damaged  by Egay.

The municipality of Bangued reported the most number of destroyed houses with 6,593,  followed by La Paz with 2,453, then  San Quintin with 545.

Aside from the DSWD, the LGUs, non-government organizations, and volunteer groups are working to deliver aid to the severely affected population due to typhoon Egay.

As of latest report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council the DSWD-CAR, LGUs, Philippine Red Cross, provincial LGU, Office of Civil Defense -CAR, and others government offices have already provided assistance amounting to more than P89.6 million for the province of Abra.(JDP/JJPM-PIA CAR, Abra)
