BANGUED, Abra(PIA) -- A total of 584 Abrenian farmers received fertilizer discount vouchers under the Rice Banner Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) during the distribution at the Bangued Town Hall recently.
Qualified farmer-beneficiaries are those registered under the Registration System for Basic Sectors of Agriculture( RSBSA). They can claim fertilizers using the vouchers amounting to P2,000 to P4,000 from accredited partner-merchants of DA.
“Our farmers will use the FDVs which costs P4,0000 per hectare to claim their choice of fertilizers from among DA-accredited merchants here in Bangued,” said DA-Cordillera Regional Field Office Rice Banner Program Coordinator Melfer Gaspar.
He said this intervention aims to boost rice production of the capital town, one of the top palay-producing municipalities in the province. It is also in line with the recovery and rehabilitation efforts of the effects of Super Typhoon Egay.
Beneficiaries are thankful for the government assistance. 43 year-old farmer Partia Evina from Barangay Dangdangla said that she saved a lot with the fertilizer discount voucher.
“Mahigit 1.2 hectare ang palayan namin dito sa Bangued. Malaki ang na-save ko dito sa discount voucher from DA lalo na ngayon medyo mahal na rin ang urea,” he said in an interview.
Sunrice Farmers Association President Violeta Barila said that the FDVs is a big help to 56 members of their organization.
“Para sa akin, makaka-discount ako ng tatlong bags ng fertilizers especially ngayong wet season, tatlong bags lang ang kailangan naming sa isang hectare kaya perfect time ang pagkakuha namin ng discount voucher,” she said.
