BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - - The provincial government here will be providing solar energy lighting for villagers living in remote areas through its “Silaw ti Umili” (Lights for Villagers) project.
“We will be partnering with the Nueva Vizcaya Electric Cooperative (NUVELCO) with this project to bring Solar Energy for Novo Vizcayanos living in remote barangays. This will also contribute in lowering the systems loss being paid by our power consumers as households beyond the power grid of our NUVELCO will be covered by this project instead,” said Governor Jose Gambito.
He presented the project before officials of National Government Agencies at the provincial capitol recently to draw support for his programs, projects and initiatives for the province.
Engineer Edgardo Sabado, provincial planning and development officer, said the more than P60 million ‘Silaw ti Umili” Project will be rolled out this year to address the plight of unenergized households in remote communities in the province.
He said the Solar-powered energization project targets 13, 109 unenergized households in the towns of Alfonso Castaneda, Ambaguio, Aritao, Bagabag, Bambang, Bayombong, Diadi, Dupax del Sur, Dupax del Norte, Kasibu, Kayapa, Quezon, Sta. Fe, Solano and Villaverde with the procurement of 50 watt 26,218 solar lights and panels.
“The number of unenergized households will still be validated. This project involves the provision of alternative source of energy by shifting to solar energy for underserved households,” Sabado said.
He said the project will be rolled out through the provision and installation of free three solar panels and lights each to the unenergized households and the conduct of information, education and communication for its proper operation and maintenance.
“This will increase access of affordable, reliable and sustainable energy/electricity among our fellow Novo Vizcayanos and reduce carbon emission by at least 10 percent, this will support our Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) with the United Nations (UN),” Sabado said.
Fredel Salvador, NUVELCO general manager, welcomed the PLGU project.
“This will surely lessen our systems loss that is being paid by our consumers. We will help in anyway possible for this project,” he said. (OTB/BME/PIA NVizcaya)
