LGU employees, avail of EC benefits - ECC

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- Members of the Iloilo Guimaras Information Officers Association (IGIOA) learned about the various assistance packages under the Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP) of the Employees' Compensation Commission (ECC).

ECC Western Visayas Regional Officer Stephen Barredo said that ECP is designed to provide a compensation package to public and private employees or their dependents in the event of work-related sickness, injury or death.

Those who are entitled to receive benefits and services under the ECP are the private sector workers who are registered as compulsory members of the Social Security System except self-employed; Overseas seafarers; Government sector employees who are registered members of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) including elective government official who are receiving regular salary; and Uniformed personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines  (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

Since 2020, Barredo said ECC has been implementing reforms and programs through the ECP and one of these programs is the COVID-19 cash assistance program.

According to ECC, clinically –diagnosed along with signs and symptoms of COVID-19 supported by diagnostic proof to include RT-PCR test is compensable in any of the these conditions: (a) There must be a direct connection between an event and the worker based the epidemiologic criteria and occupational risk, (b) The task assigned to the worker would require frequent face-to-face and close proximity interactions with the public or with confirmed COVID cases for health workers, (c) Transmission occurred in the workplace, or (d) Transmission occurred while commuting to and from work.

Further, the cash assistance is on top of the benefits received by the beneficiaries from their EC sickness/disability benefits from GSIS or SSS.

Apart from the ECC lecture, the recent gathering of Information Officers in Iloilo City also hailed the notable contribution of outgoing IGIOA President Gina Gonzales-Aris, who was newly installed as Lambunao Municipal Sports Development Officer

Ms. Aris conveyed her appreciation to everyone, especially since she has been with the organization for more than a decade.

“I have been an Information Officer for 15 years, or so and I have many treasured memories and learnings. PIA, likewise, has been a family to me to which I am grateful for, ” Aris said. (AAL/LMLE/PIA Iloilo)
