QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) is stepping up its fight against illegal drug trafficking.
From August 7 to August 11, 2023, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has achieved a total of 252 operations conducted across the five police districts of Metro Manila, with the arrest of 149 individuals involved in various illicit drug-related activities.
NCRPO chief Police Brigadier General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the value of the confiscated contraband, including shabu, marijuana, and ecstasy, is estimated at Php6,436,311.60.
The PNP chief Police General Benjamin Acorda, Jr. commended NCRPO chief PBGen Nartatez for his dedication for aggressive and honest police operations.
"These achievements underscore our unwavering commitment to ridding our communities of the scourge of illegal drugs. The PNP remains steadfast in its duty to ensure the safety and security of our citizens. We will continue to intensify our operations and collaboration with various stakeholders to effectively combat this threat."
The Northern Police District (NPD) carried out 20 operations during this time frame, leading to the apprehension of 23 suspects and confiscation of an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) value of Php525,257.20.
Similarly, the Eastern Police District (EPD) engaged in 29 operations 44 individuals were arrested. The value of the confiscated illegal substances reached Php882,524.00, underscoring the severity of the issue and the PNP's steadfast efforts in addressing it.
The Manila Police District (MPD) executed 22 operations, successfully apprehending 52 suspects. With a combined DDB value of Php1,038,564.00 worth of seized items, the MPD's actions have contributed significantly to the nationwide campaign.
The Southern Police District (SPD) conducted 41 operations, leading to the arrest of 62 individuals. The total DDB value of confiscated substances stood at Php957,586. This achievement highlights the comprehensive approach taken by the PNP to target all corners of the city and dismantle illegal drug networks.
Meanwhile, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) was equally resolute, carrying out 37 operations that resulted in the arrest of 71 suspects. The total value of seized items in this police district reached a substantial Php3,032,380.00, serving as a stark reminder of the magnitude of the illegal drug trade's impact on the community.
