QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The city government of Pasig will host its 5th Climathon on Saturday, August 19, in a bid to integrate inclusivity in its local climate action efforts.
Climathon is a collaborative platform where stakeholders from the public and private sector gather together to exchange transformative ideas that are aimed at co-creating sustainable solutions to the city’s predefined climate-related issues.
Participants are expected to develop pragmatic campaigns, strategies, processes, systems, or a combination of these by working on a specific design challenge with the help of climate experts and advocates who will provide capacity-building training.
This year, the challenge is to create an accessible and financially viable circular business model intended for the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and market vendors in the city while taking into account its environmental-soundness.
The design challenge participants who will be able to present the most innovative and inclusive model within 15 hours have the opportunity to work closely with the local government and aid in the implementation of their own climate solution which can range from waste reduction to sustainable consumption of water and energy resources.
Pasig City is the first local government to organize a Climathon in 2019.
“We believe that the good solutions, innovative ideas, and proposals should not only come from people who are in the local government, but from ordinary citizens as well, especially the youth,” said Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto in one of the LGU-initiated Climathon.
Project Loanar is one of the tangible outcomes of Climathon Pasig 2022 which centered on the provision of interest-free loans to residents who want to switch to solar power.
The 2023 Climathon will be held in Pasig Revolving Tower from 7:30 am to 10:30 pm. (PIA-NCR)
