Sen. Marcos leads AICS distribution for Egay-affected LGUs in La Union

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) — Senator Imee Marcos personally visited Bacnotan town in La Union on Sunday to distribute cash assistance, through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), to the residents who were affected by flooding due to Super Typhoon Egay.



Sen. Marcos, together with Bacnotan Mayor Divine Fontanilla, handed over assistance to some 1,100 affected residents from the towns of Luna and Bacnotan at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University- North La Union Campus, Bacnotan, La Union.


The financial assistance worth P3.3  million was distributed to beneficiaries composed of Tricycle Operators and Drivers' Association (TODA), Persons with Disability (PWDs), solo parents, and senior citizens where each received P3,000.00.


The senator assured that government assistance in affected areas of the province is in place.



"Alam ko na kahit gaano man karami ang mga bagyo o kalamidad ang dumarating, nananatili pa rin ang katatagan dito sa La Union," said Sen. Marcos.



In her speech in Bacnotan town with over a thousand beneficiaries, Sen. Marcos urged them to stay resilient as she assured that the government will continue to support the province especially in times of disaster.

Moreover, the DSWD said the AICS ensures efficient response through the augmentation of workforce and support provisions like food and non-food items to aid affected areas in their early recovery during disasters.


Meanwhile, Mayor Fontanilla presented a token of appreciation to Sen. Marcos expressing deep gratitude for the time and effort she shared to benefit the flood affected in two towns of the province.


Some 1,100 beneficiaries who received cash assistance were persons with disabilities, and tricycle drivers from Luna and Bacnotan towns.

"Kami po ay lubos na nagpapasalamat  sa pag-tulong sa aming mga kababayan na lubhang naapektuhan ng nakaraang bagyo para matulungang makabangon ang aming mga kababayan," said Fontanilla.


Some daycare learners also received Nutribuns and school supplies.


San Fernando City Councilor Pablo Ortega, Bacnotan Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, and some local officials joined the distribution of assistance. (JCR/MJTAB/KJCR, PIA La Union)
