PSA-Aklan now accepts PhilSys IDs replacement

KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) -- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Aklan has begun accepting requests for the replacement of damaged or defective Philippine Identification System ID (PhilSys ID).

In a press release, Chief Statistical Specialist engineer Antonet B. Catubuan of PSA-Aklan said that the replacement of damaged or defective PhilSys ID is a proactive measure of the agency in ensuring usability and acceptability of the national ID as a valid proof of identification in all transactions.

Catubuan reiterated that the request for replacement of damaged PhilSys ID is free of charge.

The printing of the national ID is now managed by the PSA-Central Office and the replacement for the defective ones would take at least a month to arrive at the PSA here.

A holder of the damaged PhilSys ID could go to the Fixed Registration Center (FRC) of the PSA-Aklan and request for its replacement.

Per the guidelines of PSA, a PhilSys ID is said to be damaged or defective if the plastic cover is peeled off, the photo is hazy or does not match the cardholder, or it has been washed out that caused some entries to be erased.

Peter Mangilog, information officer of PSA-Aklan, explained that damaged national IDs qualified to be replaced by the agency are those that do not require updating of cardholder’s demographic and biometric information.

Mangilog added that correction in names, erroneous sex or date of birth, change of marital status and the likes, are not yet included in the scope of the replacement but such concerns are now being addressed by the PSA and will soon release proactive measures.

As of August 17, 2023, PSA- Aklan already received and processed 52 requests for the replacement of damaged PhilSys IDs, where five of which were already received and immediately issued to the cardholders. (AGP/SQP/PIA Aklan)
