MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)--The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Misamis Oriental, in collaboration with the City Government of Cagayan de Oro City, stages a three-day Diskwento Caravan branded "Fiesta Balik Eskwela" from August 23–25 in response to rising costs for goods and school supplies.
Customers may expect to receive discounts ranging from five to ten percent off, as well as various promotional items on display, including school supplies, school uniforms, backpacks, shoes, and other prime commodities, thanks to the participation of 25 firms in the caravan.
"Over the next three days, we are privileged to host twenty-five suppliers of essential prime commodities who have come together to offer their products at discounted prices. This initiative serves not only the non-wage incentive for our hard-working minimum-wage earners but also guarantees the accessibility of fundamental necessity at a reasonable cost,” DTI Misamis Oriental Provincial Director Almer Masillones said.
Masillones further detailed that DTI and the supplier ventured into a memorandum of agreement that every time the agency conducts a Diskwento Caravan, they will participate and sell items at a discounted price, which is far less expensive than supermarkets or food stores.
Meanwhile, the City Government of Cagayan de Oro welcomes the Diskwento Caravan initiatives spearheaded by DTI as they will help consumers purchase items at a much lower price.
“Supporting this Diskwento caravan for customers to buy cheaper goods at 5-10% is a big discount. I hope this will continue until prices of the commodities and other items go down. With this program, it is easier for consumers to buy at lower prices,” Cagayan de Oro City Councilor George Goking said.
He also shared that as the Chairperson of the Ways and Means Committee and Trade and Commerce, his committee acknowledges that consumers are having a hard time with the price increases in the market, considering the salary level that one is receiving. Thus, he said this initiative is a great help.
As the DTI Misamis Oriental continues to conduct various Diskwento Caravans in different areas in Misamis Oriental, they encouraged other local government units to take part in this initiative to allow their constituents to purchase items at discounted and reasonable prices.
Masillones urged the consumers to visit and take advantage of the discounts offered in the Diskwento Caravan since it only happens once or thrice a year. (JAKA/PIA10)
