A ‘Song and Dance Contest’ was conducted yesterday at the St. Philomene of Alcala school grounds as a kick-off to the said celebration. Participants from various barangays participated in the contest.
The urbanization of Alcala Town never stopped kids, youth, and kids-at-heart from experiencing and loving every minute of playing traditional games, as the local government unit spearheaded today, August 24, the conduct of ‘Laro ng Salinlahi’.
An Ilokano musical dubbed 'Alcala, O Imnas’ will also be staged tonight at 7 p.m. where local-grown talents, including voice scholars and string scholars of the municipality, will lead the performance.
“Daytoy ti pakaistoryaan ti ili tayo iti naglabas a laylayus ken pandemia, kakabsat. Ngarud, intay' agbuya ken lagipen daguiti pasamak, amirisen daguiti adal ken rambakan daguiti balligi. Maawis ti amin,” said Antonio.
[This is the story of our town in the past floods and pandemics, folks. So, let's watch and remember the events, analyze the lessons and celebrate the successes. Everyone is invited.]
A simultaneous native tree planting and nurturing activity named as ‘Green Wall Day’ is scheduled for 6 a.m. tomorrow, August 25, to strengthen Antonio’s flagship program, ‘Green Wall of Alcala’, which aims to plant a vegetation shield of native trees to form a belt of protection for the riverbank and community.
Since the project was launched, more than 35,000 native trees, including fruit-bearing trees, have been planted. All of these are currently thriving, according to Atty. Tin, as the monitoring of the survivability of the trees is continuous in all 90 sites in the entire municipality, from the riverbanks to the roadside, and from communities to schools.
