CEBU CITY, Cebu, Aug. 23 (PIA) – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Region 7 is set to conduct the Census on Agriculture and Fisheries (CAF) from Sept. 4, 2023 to Oct. 25, 2023 in line with the observation of the National Agriculture and Fisheries Census Month every September pursuant to Proclamation No. 272 signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.
Starting Sept. 4, a total of 1,031 PSA enumerators will be holding interviews in households from sample barangays in the four provinces of Region 7.
According to PSA-7 Regional Director Engr. Ariel Florendo during the Kapihan sa PIA held Aug. 23, sample barangays are the statistical chosen households for data collection.
“A total of 1,397 households will be visited while 366 area supervisors and assistant area supervisors will be deployed,” said Florendo.
“This is a large-scale government activity to collect data and compile basic information on the agricultural and fishery sectors in the country,” he added.
The CAF is conducted every 10 years, with the last round done in 2012.
Target respondents during the census are households, barangay officials, and non-households with crop, farm, livestock and poultry farm, aquafarm and fishing operations from Jan. 1, 2022 to Dec. 31, 2022.
Methods of data collection are through Computer Assisted Personal Interview, Pen and Paper Interview, and the Self-Administered Questionnaire.
Florendo assured the public that the collected data are strictly confidential and that PSA Enumerators will be wearing their identification cards during the visits.
“We are also asking the respondents to be truthful and to finish the interviews,” Florendo added.
The 2022 CAF will help policymakers understand the challenges faced by the fisheries and farming sector and help officials craft policies and decisions to improve the sectors nationwide.
PSA has partnered with Bea Alonzo, an actress and farm owner, as the agency’s ambassadress for the 2022 CAF.
Other government agencies were also tapped to help in the information dissemination of the census, such as the National Economic and Development Authority, Department of Interior and Local Government, Population Commission, Cebu Port Authority, Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
