NCRPO chief ensures strict implementation of gun ban in Metro Manila

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Police Brigadier General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. ensures the enforcement of the election gun ban during the election period strictly.

NCRPO will strictly enforce election gun ban during the election period and will keep up its police presence and visibility even after the gun ban period to ensure a peaceful, fair, and safe conduct of Barangay ad Sangguniang Kabataan Barangay Elections 2023,” said Nartatez.

Pursuant to Commission on Election (COMELEC) Resolution No. 10902, the 90-day election period for the 2023 BSKE commenced Monday, August 28, 2023, with the filling of Certificates of Candidacy (COC) and will culminate on November 29, 2023.

Prior to this, the NCRPO chief assured the public that all operational plans and activities of the Metro Manila police force will be in accordance with Comelec Resolution No. 10902, as well as enforcing all prohibitions for the 90-day election period as stated under the Omnibus Election Code and Resolutions approved by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

The NCRPO has established 101 COMELEC checkpoints in Metro Manila. The checkpoints in the different areas in the metropolis resulted in the arrest of 10 individuals during checkpoint and police patrol/response; confiscation/seizure/recovery of two (2) short firearms and four (4) other kinds (Sumpak/Improvised/Homemade/Paltik/Replica), and confiscation of 17 bladed weapons and eight (8) ammunition.

Nartatez also assured that NCRPO will keep up with its vigilance and increase police presence and visibility in public areas even after the gun ban period.

He also encouraged and sought the public to cooperate and support the implementation of the COMELEC gun ban as well as adhere to the guidelines as stated in the Omnibus Election Code to ensure a peaceful, fair, and safe conduct of BSKE 2023.

Only regular members or officers of the Philippine National Police, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other enforcement agencies of the government who are duly deputized by the COMELEC for election duty are authorized to carry and possess firearms during the election period,” Nartatez reminded all owners to be responsible and adhere to the guidelines on gun ban.  

Moreover, Nartatez guaranteed that all violators during the duration of the election period would be prosecuted and penalized accordingly. Likewise, he also stated that NCRPO will carry on with its campaign against all forms of criminality and illegal drugs while keeping the people safe and protected at all times. (NCRPO/PIA-NCR)
