DPWH completes concrete slope protection project in Maria Aurora

BALER, Aurora (PIA) -- Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed the 1,035.30-linear meter concrete slope protection along Cabatangan River in Maria Aurora town.

The P91.68-million project was funded under the 2022 national budget.

DPWH Aurora District Engineer Roderick Andal said the completed structure not only shields neighboring farmland from typhoon-related flooding and other extreme weather impacts but also serves as a defense against soil erosion and sedimentation, preserving the integrity of agricultural land.

A tributary of Aguang River, Cabatangan River is known for its susceptibility to overflow during typhoon events.

“The project involved the construction of concrete slope protection on a steel sheet pile foundation, grouted riprap for backside slope protection, gabion installation, and spur dike construction,” he disclosed.

It likewise consisted of concrete ramp establishment, mattress installation along the ramp, and construction of a box culvert. (CLJD-PIA 3)
