Kalinga to adopt ‘iSTART’ program

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) -- The province is set to implement the Innovation, Science and Technology for Accelerating Regional Technology-Based Development (iSTART) program of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The Kalinga provincial governemnt  and DOST-Cordillera  recently entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the project.  

Under the agreement, DOST-CAR shall provide technical assistance for capacity building to be integrated in the annual Provincial Development and Physical Framework Plan.

Gov. James S. Edduba explained that  the partnership will push the province to match with the global technology trend running economic swing.

Through iSTART,  LGUs will develop technology development plan to accelerate growth in agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and other sectors and will attract other technology-based investment in the area.

The program is among the major efforts of the department in equipping communities with needed technology for innovation, Edduba noted.

With iSTART,  new opportunities will open especially for small enterprises in the province, he said. (LL—PIA CAR, Kalinga)
