MWSS brings drinking water for calamity-hit Abrenian families

BANGUED, Abra (PIA) -- The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System - Corporate Office (MWSS-CO) recently turned over drinking water, utility cans, and repair clamps and couplings to the Metro Bangued Water District (MBWD) here.
 
Upon the request of MBWD, 200 pieces of 20 liters and 300 pieces of six  liters drinking water were unloaded at the MBWD motorpool.The total of 5,800 liters of drinking water was donated to serve as water supply to the affected families by recent typhoons   Egay and  Goring. 

 
The turn over activity led by MWSS Deputy Administrator Jose Alfredo Escoto  to  MBWD General Manager Kathleen Balbin Tawantawan was also made possible with the assistance of Maynilad and Manila Water.
 
“Nagrequest po si GM ng assistance ng MWSS para makatulong sa pagkumpuni ng mga nasira ng bagyo and at the same time,  ‘yung ready to drink water supplies,” Escoto said in an interview
 
The MWSS also handed over repair clamps and couplings which will be used for the rehabilitation of the MBWD water system that affects distribution lines in the capital town of Bangued, Peñarrubia, Pidigan, and Tayum.
 
Tawantawan expressed her thanks to MWSS for the assistance.  She said that the repair materials will expedite the restoration of damaged service lines.
 
“Mapapabilis ang pag-repair natin ng mga tubo natin na na-damaged due to Super Typhoon Egay,” Balbin said.
 
Through the partnership with  MWSS, Maynilad and Manila Water and with adequate supplies of repair kits, Balbin said that water services in the remaining barangays will be fully restored soon.
 
In the reports of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, around P38.2 million  worth  of damage was sustained by the water system  in the province  due to  Egay.
 
Most  areas for water supply service in the province  are already restored except for the  severely flooded barangays of Bangued that  are still experiencing difficuty in  waster supply.  (JDP/CAGT - PIA CAR, Abra)
