CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga(PIA) - -Kalinga rice farmers continue to receive assistance from the Department of Agriculture through the fertilizer discount voucher (FDV) scheme.
Farmers use the FDVs to claim urea fertilizer at DA-accredited merchants.
In Tinglayan, the local government unit informed that 164 farmer-beneficiaries claimed their fertilizers using the voucher. The beneficiaries are tilling a total of 25 hectares of rice fields spread around the municipality.
The Lubuagan Municipal Information Office also reported that 251 recipients from six barangays received a total of 350 sacks of fertilizer through FDV.
Each farmer planting inbred seeds was given a FDV equivalent to P1,131.00 per hectare while hybrid seed planters were given an equivalent of P2,262.00 FDV.
In Tabuk City, about 5,000 rice farmers registered under the Farmers Intervention Monitoring System with two hectares or less of farmland received their FDV last August from 13 accredited merchants.
FDV is given to rice farmers with low purchasing power and registered under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture. It aims to help them navigate the challenges brought by the fluctuations in the cost of commercial fertilizers, enhance production of rice and stabilize domestic rice supply.
Aside from the discount vouchers, beneficiaries also get an intervention monitoring card from the National Registry System for Farmers and Fisherfolk to be used to claim government assistance. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
