DTI Isabela empowers cacao farmers, distributes livelihood kits

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) - - In its desire to empower cacao farmers in the province, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) - Isabela Provincial Office awarded livelihood kits to some beneficiaries from the towns of Echague, Ramon and Jones who underwent training on cacao farming Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) recently.

The cacao livelihood kits comprised of fermentation box, pruning shears, and fertilizers aimed at supporting local cacao producers in enhancing their cacao production and processing. 

DTI Isabela Business Development Division Chief Zenaida Quinto said the livelihood kits are essential tools and resources that will empower the beneficiaries to improve the quality and yield of their cacao crops.

Quinto said the Department of Trade and Industry recognizes the vital role of cacao farmers who are important contributors in spurring economic development in the region and in the country.

“By equipping our cacao farmers with the necessary tools and knowledge, we aim to strengthen their capacity to boost the local cacao industry in the province,” Quinto said.

She said the Department of Trade and Industry Region 2 remains committed in empowering local farmers, promoting agricultural sustainability, and fostering the growth of the cacao industry.

Recently, DTI R2 Isabela Provincial Office organized a cacao farm visit and engaged in a productive conversation with the farmers and come up with interventions to boost cacao production and processing in the said towns.
