CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) -- The Department of Information and Communications Technology’s implementation of ‘Free Wifi For All’ is ongoing in different parts of the country to help connect citizens especially in remote areas.
In this regard, DICT Oriental Mindoro implemented free connection to the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) at Ecological Public Secondary School-Arigoy Extension, San Teodoro on September 2, 2023.
As posted in the DICT Oriental Mindoro’s Facebook page, DICT ensures to empower IP communities through its program, “Access to information and online resources is no longer a distant aspiration but a tangible reality, for students, teachers and especially for the IP community. We are shattering the barriers to education and ensuring that empowerment knows no boundaries.”
“The presence of Wi-Fi isn't just about connectivity; it is a testament to our commitment to uplift and empower the IP community, providing them with access to the knowledge and resources that can truly transform lives. Together, let's ride the waves of knowledge and create an impact that will resonate deeply within our school and throughout the IP community,” said DICT.
Apart from the said school, students from elementary and secondary schools in the area can now access internet connection, as well as citizens within the barangay.
This program will help raise the quality of education of the IPs. It is also expected to help the teachers facilitate their research and help in forwarding their necessary reports.
Part of the agency's mandate is to help develop the quality of education in the country through the implementation of proper and appropriate technology. (GATS/PIA MIMAROPA)
