Government workers join in the NSED
DAVAO CITY (PIA) -- Government workers, students, mall employees and their clients joined this year's third quarter nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill (NSED), Sept. 7.
Among the agencies that participated in the simulation exercise, executing the the duck, cover and hold, and evacuation, were the regional offices of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine Ports Authority, National Bureau of Investigation, Government Service Insurance System, Philippine Information Agency, Bureau of Fire Protection, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development, Mines and Geosciences Bureau, and the Office of Civil Defense.
An orientation on what to do during the shaking and where to go for evacuation was conducted by every agency prior to the observance of the NSED.
Personnel of the National Edonomic and Development Authority (NEDA) XI, alongside visiting members of the Development Administration Committee, who were in the NEDA-11 Building, participated in the drill.
The NSED is a drill aimed at raising preparedness during earthquakes and ensuring that establishments and offices are prepared to correctly act and respond in the event of an earthquake.
A number of government offices were observed to have joined this quarter's NSED, folowing the magnitude 4.8 earthquake in Davao City las Sept. 6.
Aside from government employees, students and pupils in public elementary and high schools in Davao Region also participated in the earthquake simulation exercise.
Mall employees, security personnel, tenants, and shoppers in Lanang also joined the NSED, which was part of the mall’s mission to empower its workforce and nearby communities to become more resilient in the face of disasters.
Prior to the quake drill, an orientation was also conducted by the mall security to educate and to provide essential and practical survival tips to its tenants in times of earthquakes. (JSGD-Davao del Sur)
