KASIBU, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - - The loom weaving industry in this town will be further developed to provide economic gains among the Indigenous People.
Officials of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), OceanaGold Philippines, Inc. – Didipio Mine, the Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) of Kasibu, Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Capissaan, and the Alayan Pag-asa Abot-Palad Association (APAPA) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to roll out the implementation of the MUN-ABOL (Maximizing network and Unveiling Natural talents thru Acceleration of Business Opportunities and Livelihood) Project.
DTI Provincial Director Marietta Salviejo said the project MUNA-ABOL, a term used by the IPs ‘to weave’, provides a Shared Service Facility of the agency to the APAPA for their Loom Weaving Project.
The women’s organization, also one of OceanaGold’s assisted community-based organizations under their IP Revitalization Program has pushed their interest in pursuing the project as a way in preserving the culture and traditions of the IPs in Kasibu town.
Salviejo said the MUN-ABOL Project promotes the empowerment of women as they will be establishing a weaving/training center, conduct of upgrading skills training to further hone the loom weaving skills of the members, training on fashion designing using loom woven products, encourage them for participation in various marketing events/trade fairs, and the conduct of other entrepreneurial development trainings.
“Let us all work together in introducing MUN-ABOL as one of Kasibu’s finest crafts/brands, in addition to all its titles such as the Citrus Capital of Luzon, home to various unique and majestic tourist attractions such as the Capisaan Cave, and source of one of Nueva Vizcaya’s finest coffee products, among others,” Salviejo said.
Local officials of Kasibu led by Mayor Romeo Tayaban expressed full support for the project, knowing further the establishment of the weaving facility and training center by September this year which will not only benefit APAPA members but other IPs as well. (OTB/BME/PIA NVizcaya)
