Ipil schools excel in nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay, September 07 (PIA) - In a remarkable display of unity, Ipil Special Education Center and Ipil Central Elementary School, together with various government agencies and private school evaluators, successfully participated in this year's Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED).

NSED is an annual nationwide event aimed at enhancing earthquake preparedness and response capabilities across the Philippines. It serves as a vital reminder of the importance of disaster readiness in a country prone to seismic activities.

The earthquake drill in Ipil this year left a lasting impression. The students and staff of both Ipil Sped Center and Ipil Central Elementary School demonstrated their commitment to safety and disaster preparedness. The actions during the simulated earthquake and subsequent response activities showcased the dedication of everyone to protecting the community's most vulnerable members.

The event was further fortified by the active participation of key agencies, such as the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, Rural Health Unit of  Ipil, and the Department of Interior and Local Government among others. These agencies worked in tandem to ensure a well-coordinated response during the drill. Evaluators and documenters from various institutions lent their expertise to the exercise, providing valuable insights and feedback to enhance future disaster preparedness efforts in Ipil.

Ipil municipal mayor Amy Olegario graced the event and she underscored the importance of safeguarding the residents in times of crisis. “To our students, fostering interest and cooperation will prove invaluable, as being prepared is always advantageous, whether or not a disaster occurs”, Mayor Olegario said in her welcome address.

OCD-9 Regional Director Ramon Ochotorena also said, “To all the students and to the youth, let us put in our hearts the things that we’ll be doing. Iba na talaga ang handa, bida ang handa”.

The drill's collective efforts are a substantial step forward in strengthening community safety and resilience, highlighting the ongoing need for preparedness. This demonstration emphasizes our dedication to continuously enhance our response capabilities.

The success of the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill in Ipil demonstrates the power of collaboration and dedication to disaster preparedness. It serves as a shining example for other communities, highlighting the importance of proactive measures to mitigate the impact of natural disasters. (NBE/RBI/PIA9-Zamboanga Sibugay)
