LGUs encouraged to implement BREQS program for streamlined civil registry services

TUBOD, Lanao del Norte (PIA)--Local government units (LGUs) in this province are being encouraged to adopt the Batch Request System (BREQS) program, introduced by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), to provide more efficient civil registry services to their constituents.

PSA Lanao del Norte Senior Statistical Analyst Eddie B. Ministerio, Jr., shared about this during the Provincial Development Council-Institutional Committee meeting.

One of the primary challenges faced by residents in the hinterlands of the province has been the accessibility of PSA's services since the office is primarily located in Iligan City, which is far from the province, especially for residents from remote areas.

But if the local governments can implement BREQS, residents can easily access essential civil registry documents without having to travel to Iligan City.

BREQS is a groundbreaking initiative that authorizes selected partners to receive and process requests for PSA-issued copies and certifications of civil registry documents on behalf of the public.

The local government partner, using BREQS through the Local Civil Registrar's (LCR) office, will handle applications for documents like birth, marriage, death certificates, and Certificate of No Marriage Record on Security Paper offline in batches. PSA authorizes them to receive and provide PSA-issued copies and document certifications to clients.

PSA supplies the BREQS user with software, templates, updates, and procedures. This software lets the user input application details offline.

This system means clients no longer need to go to far-off PSA outlets, saving them time, money, and effort when filing applications at the LCR office.

Furthermore, PSA Lanao del Norte shared various activities lined up for the celebration of the 34th National Statistics Month to promote and enhance awareness and appreciation of the importance of the value of statistics to different sectors of society.

Some of the activities include a statistics quiz, a training workshop on data presentation and processing, the updating of the statistics bulletin board, the StatisTikTok Contest, and a statistical exhibit, among others. (LELA/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)
