TITAY, Zamboanga Sibugay, (PIA) — The Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 9 has undertaken a proactive initiative by conducting inspections of rice harvesting operations across the region. These measures are aimed at securing a consistent rice supply for the area.

Titay, known for its vast rice farm, became the focal point of this strategic effort in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay. DA-9 team is scrutinizing every facet of the rice harvesting process, ensuring it adheres to the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

The inspection ensures that rice production in Titay and other parts of the province will produce enough rice supply for Sibugaynons.

“Titay started harvesting last week of August and estimated harvest would be 13,500 metric tons and we are now at 40% completion rate”, said Mr. Rex E. Lagasca, Titay Municipal Agriculturist.

In an effort to enhance agricultural productivity, DA-9 is actively assisting farmers in maximizing their crop yields while reducing waste during the harvest process. Desiree Arriola, Agricultural Center Chief II at DA Zamboanga Sibugay, highlighted their interventions, which include precise fertilization techniques, mechanization initiatives, and the distribution of high-yield seed varieties.

These comprehensive measures underscore DA-9's commitment, not only the security of the region's food supply but as well as the prosperity of local farmers.

“I am thankful for the seeds and fertilizer assistance because it will reduce our expenses”, said Benjamin Manuel Jr., a farmer in the area.

The initiatives undertaken by DA-9 encompass not only the assurance of rice supply within the region but also the improvement of farmers' livelihoods.
