QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has provided a ‘VISSER’ or the Versatile Instrumentation System for Science Education and Research kits and 3D printers to Pasig City.
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto thanked the DOST for the kits and printers.
“Thank you DOST for the ‘Push4Science’ project, implemented through our DepEd SDO. We need to keep up with the rapid development of technology. Exposure and hands-on experience go a long way.”
With technology as a driver of a country’s development, the K-12 Program includes the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand for which the students can learn the basics of the discipline as well as broaden their skills.
With the aim to upgrade the STEM strand, the Versatile Instrumentation System for Science Education and Research (VISSER) is a science kit that allows students to conduct over 50 science experiments in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering.
According to the DOST, the VISSER’s hardware consists of analog and digital sensors that act as a central hub to which different sensors can be connected and controlled to perform various science experiments. Its software includes data storage, control, interface, and analysis tools for the users. The device can be used without a computer, and it can be powered by a battery or power bank.
This is in pursuance of the provisions of RA 7687 or the “Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994,” which stipulates that there should be at least two (2) talented and deserving scholars per municipality or congressional district in the country. (Pasig City/DOST/PIA-NCR)
