QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in collaboration with Bulacan rice millers and traders implemented the Rice on Wheels for Retailers program on Friday, 8 September 2023, as part of its efforts in implementing Executive Order No. 39.
The Rice on Wheels for Retailers program aims to ensure the availability of regular and well-milled rice that are within the price ceiling set by E.O. No. 39.
The program specifically targets retailers in public markets to enable them to source out cheaper rice.
The kick-off last Friday was held simultaneously in Quezon City, Parañaque City, Manila, and Makati, which was followed by another caravan on September 9 in Bicutan, Paranaque City and Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
Yesterday (Sept. 11), another caravan rolled in the cities of Pasig, Caloocan, Muntinlupa, Paranaque, Marikina and Quezon City.
Since its kick-off, the Rice on Wheels for Retailers program was able to sell a total of 1,371 sacks of well-milled rice.
According to the DTI, the rice millers and traders who collaborated with them, initially committed to provide 30,000 sacks of rice.
Eyeing the commitment, the DTI said the program is set to continue in the coming weeks for other areas. (dti/pia-ncr)
