NAPOLCOM 1 caps eventful 2023 National Crime Prevention Week

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Region 1 capped an eventful and activity-filled 2023 iteration of the National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW) through a culminating activity held at the Conference Hall, NAPOLCOM Region 1 Building, Barangay Sevilla in this city on September 8.

The said activity culminated seven days of activities throughout Ilocos Region to advocate crime prevention in adherence to the 29th NCPW theme: Addressing Crime Prevention at the Local, National and Global Levels.

The culminating activity also awarded winning entries from the 2023 NCPW Poster and Slogan Making contest participated by Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) under the care of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 1’s Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY).

The awards for winning entries were personally received by DSWD Ilocos Regional Director Marie Angela S. Gopalan, in behalf of the CICL winners; from NAPOLCOM 1 Regional Director George Aplas D. Daskeo and City of San Fernando Mayor Hermenegildo A. Gualberto.

The focus of majority of this year’s NCPW activities were the youth and other disadvantaged sectors, with an orientation on crime prevention and its associated laws held at the Bauang North Central School on September 4 as well as a lecture on Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) in San Gabriel, La Union on September 6.

Another milestone of this year’s NCPW is the signing of memorandum of agreement (MOA) held at Balaoan, La Union on the implementation of the Community and Service-Oriented Policing (CSOP) in the municipality.

The CSOP promotes public safety as well as peace and order and aims to strengthen the capacity of local governments to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of basic services to its constituents.

Atty. Allan D. Ancheta, Chief of the NAPOLCOM 1's Technical Services Division, meanwhile extended his gratitude to the 2023 NCPW Regional Technical Working Group (RTWG) members for their contributions along crime prevention and advocacy during the weeklong activity.

"I warmly applaud all your contributions [RTWG members] to the success of this activity. I encourage everyone to tap your shoulders because you did a great job," Atty. Ancheta said.
