QUEZON CITY, (PIA) --The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) through the National Plant Quarantine Services Division (BPI-NPQSD), successfully gained access to the lucrative South Korean Avocado Market.
The Department of Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (APQA) of the Republic of Korea and DA-BPI reached a historic agreement on June 19, 2023 when the import requirements of fresh ‘Hass’ avocado have been finalized and came into effect as of September 8, 2023.
DA-BPI is also closely coordinating with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and other Plant Quarantine Regional Offices to comply with all the necessary requirements to officially commence the fresh ‘Hass’ avocado to Korea.
The maiden shipment is expected before the end of September 2023 and will come from the BPI-accredited facilities in Davao, Bukidnon, and South Cotabato in compliance with the phytosanitary requirements.
The export of avocados not only offers Philippine farmers new economic opportunities, but also diversifies the country’s export portfolio, solidifying its capability to trade quality agricultural products to the global market. (da-bpi/pia-ncr)
