DICT empowers online freelancers to boost local job opportunities in ZamPen

ZAMBOANGA CITY Sept. 13, (PIA) - The Department of Information and Communications Technology recognizes the potential of online freelancing and continues to provide programs and training to the local and rural communities which will also boost job opportunities.

One of the most significant shifts has been the rise of online freelancing, enabling individuals to harness their skills and talents to find work opportunities and clients from around the world. Recognizing the potential of this growing industry, DICT also takes this opportunity to assist online freelancers in the Zamboanga Peninsula region. By doing so, DICT is not only fostering economic growth but also creating a more sustainable future for the local workforce.

DICT Undersecretary for the ICT Industry Development Jocelle Batapa-Sigue emphasized that they are committed to providing support to Filipino freelancers and making the industry reach greater heights to make the Philippines the fastest growing market for the online freelancing industry in Southeast Asia.

“We in the DICT continue to find ways to ensure that our support to the industry and its communities become something that is sustainable and impactful,” Usec. Sigue said.

There are several programs they offer to those who are interested to start their career in online freelancing like the EDEGE PH or Empowering Digital Workers of the Gig Industry Ecosystem in the Philippines Program that aims to develop a strong ICT ecosystem for online freelancing industry that will result to the generation of more jobs and venue.

Further, The Digital Jobs PH program formerly known as Rural Impact Sourcing Program is also part of DICTs program to increase the ICT technical skills of the talents in the countryside. There is a continuous conduct of free online and on ground trainings for the individuals to explore the available careers as online freelancers.

DICT 9 and Basulta Region conducted the two-day Philippine Online Freelancing Conference in Zamboanga city on September 12 to 13, where they bring together online professionals, freelancing industries, and digital jobs ph graduates in an insightful discussion about the digital freelancing industry.

Dir. Emmy Lou Delfin of DICT ICT Industry Development Bureau highlighted the DICT’s commitment to provide every Filipino access to ICT services, as well as to ensure the sustainable growth of ICT-enabled industries in the country for the creation of more opportunities and jobs, especially in the countryside and for online freelancers.
